The Episcopal Youth Community (EYC) at St. Mary’s is made up of sixth through twelfth graders. We gather to explore the Christian Story of salvation as told in Holy Scripture (throughout the year we cover the broad parts of the Story: Creation, Crisis, Covenant, Christ, Cross, Church, Coming Kingdom) and then, through our words and our actions together, we connect this Story to our everyday lives.
We gather every Sunday evening from September until May, and at special times during the summer. The Jr. EYC (Middle School) meets from 5:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and Sr. EYC (High School) meets from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. We are all gathered together to eat a meal generously offered by members of the congregation from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Additionally, High Schoolers make up the Sr. EYC Girls & Guys Groups that meet once a month on a weekday evening. This is a very relaxed setting in which we can connect without a set program in mind. Activities for the girls in this group have included tea and baking while the guys have enjoyed fellowship beside a campfire and playing video games.
Youth are also invited to participate in the many programs sponsored by the Diocese of East Carolina. At these events, our youth are able to make friends and share in ministry with youth from all across the region. Some highlights are these events held at Trinity Center (at the beach!): Fall Conference (Middle School), Spring Conference (High School), New Beginnings (Middle School), and Happening (High School).
